the theater

My college roommate married her high school sweetheart this weekend. I can't believe the day is finally here. It was a great time to hang out with old friends.

modern art

On Sunday, I went saw The Société Anonyme exhibit at the Hammer Museum. It is a collection of works by some artists who formed a society in the 1920s to promote modern art in America. They even had their own stationery. I've learned that being a successful artist is all about who you know. Anyhow, I thought it was a beautiful exhibit. I love the colors and forms of modern art, though I'm not particularly a fan of contemporary art. My favorites were the works by Kandinsky and Stella. Check it out if you get the chance. The museum is free in the summer.

Afterward, we had dinner at Le Pain Quotidien and dessert at my beloved Diddy Riese.

norcal

Another whirlwind weekend in the bay area. It's amazing what you can cram into 20 hours (my Saturday). I got to catch up with friends and family. The 3-year old babies are taking violin lessons. I told one mommy, "you're so Asian!"

On Sunday, I saw my friend and colleague about my hip. He did some tests and said I have a lot of junk (knots and trigger points) in my muscles. I had to get some extensive work done. My hip still hurts today, but less and in a different way and in different places. This is encouraging. It's been a long recovery, which I'm told is a consequence of aging. Finally, instead of just taking it easy, I'm stretching and massaging and strengthening with non-weightbearing exercise. Until I can resume tennis and golf, I've taken up bowling. I bowled a 136 last night :). Can't wait for my shoes to arrive!

*edit* My hip is not a new injury. It's been hurting for about 4 months now. I strained a couple of muscles from golf and tennis. All that torquing. Recovery has been slow. Finishing my golf lessons during the early stages of my injury and the car accident didn't help. I've been treated for it, but inconsistently. I feel like it's all I talk about these days. I just don't feel like myself when I'm injured :(.

thinking blue

The complete LA summer experience includes a trip to Dodger Stadium and the Hollywood Bowl (next on my list). Last night, the Dodgers beat the SF Giants 9-7. It was a fun night game despite the traffic. Barry Bonds gets booed wherever he goes. Am I the only one who thinks Garciaparra is an unusually long surname? I wonder if it's the combination of two last names, similar to LA mayor Anthony Villaraigosa (Villa + Raigosa), who combined his and his wife's maiden name.

*edit* Nomar is married to Mia Hamm, a two-time Olympic Gold Medal winner in women's soccer
