the end of christmas

Last night, my small group celebrated Epiphany, a.k.a. the 12th day of Christmas or the day of the 3 Kings, with a rosca de reyes and hot chocolate.

"three kings cake," a mexican sweet bread with figures hidden inside

shaped like a crown, the red and green fruit pieces represent the jewels

if you get a piece of cake with a figure in it, you and the other lucky winners have to throw a party on feb 2, candelaria day. not just any party, a party with tamales and atole, yum yum!

i think traditionally the pieces are baked in. this cake came with three figures separately so someone had to put them into the cake.

someone was too excited in cutting the cake and cut into the baby Jesus figurine

What a fun idea! Were you one of the "lucky" winners? Learning to make tamales, now...?
