green

Tonight I went to a St. Patty's Day potluck, yum! The entertainment for the night was the corned beef cook-off. 5 different corned beefs--2 flat cuts and 3 point cuts were prepared by boiling, baking, or slow-cooking. We carefully placed the samples on our plates so they wouldn't get mixed up. It was a tough choice. I had to go to a tie-breaker. I think we all ate a lot of meat tonight. The ballots were tallied by a certified accountant. I voted for the point cut that was baked with a special glaze. However, the prize (an invitation to return next year with the same recipe) went to my second choice, a point cut cooked with carrots and onions. Mmm, gotta love these holidays centered around "traditional" meals.

happy st. patrick's day!

i have eaten corned beef once. i wouldn't know how it's supposed to taste! haha. hey, why's it called "corned" beef anyways? i do not recall any corn going into the recipe. :P yay for good food, friends, and fun! hope you have as much fun next year!

How about forcing the winner to share their recipe and posting it for everyone!?

i'll ask him for the recipe. it's the same guy who fried all those turkeys. apparently, a wealthy of culinary information.

*wealth. i hate that blogger doesn't allow you to edit comments.

i had corned beef again today. a patient brought me some that she had made last week. it was a full meal--corned beef with carrots, cabbage, a baked potato, rye bread, and a baked apple with oats and cinnamon in place of the core. i think it was especially good because she had cured her own beef, nitrite-free.

i do. i tend to associate with people who like to eat. food is always a draw for me. click on the "traditional" link for a description of corned beef.

The winning recipe is by Betty Crocker! The winner doubled the water and Worcestershire sauce and left out the potatoes because he didn't have any.
